FAQ: Period School Sets

Everything parents ask about setting a teen up for school days on their period: what's in each set, which flow to pick, and how to make the whole thing feel like no big deal. A great place to start if you're building their first period kit.

What absorbency are the Period School Sets?
Each set comes in a choice of Heavy Flow or Super Heavy Flow. Heavy Flow pants absorb around 20ml, about 4 tampons' worth, and suit most school days. Super Heavy Flow absorbs up to 60ml for the very heaviest days. Both come as a seamless midi brief, and Heavy Flow is also available as a Boxer Short for teens who prefer full coverage comfort.
How do the sets make school days less stressful?
They're as easy as regular underwear: pull on a fresh pair in the morning and that's it until home time, with nothing to carry, change or remember between lessons. The seamless Stretch™ fabric flexes across 3 sizes with no seams or labels to niggle, which makes it a favourite with sensory-sensitive teens. Less faff, less worry, more getting on with the day. Do periods really make girls miss school?
More often than most of us realise. Plan International UK's Break the Barriers research found that 49% of girls have missed an entire day of school because of their period, and 59% of those gave a different excuse for it. Only one in five felt comfortable discussing their period with their teacher. Protection they can trust from the first bell to home time is one of the simplest ways to stop periods costing school days.
How can I help my child feel confident talking about periods?
Talking openly is the biggest stigma-buster. The same Plan International UK research found that one in seven girls didn't know what was happening when their first period started, and 26% didn't know what to do. Starting the chat early, and keeping it casual, makes the real thing far less scary. Growing Up Powerful: The Period and Puberty Edition by Rebel Girls is perfect for younger pre-teens and teens, and Girls Guide to Growing Up Great by Sophie Elkan is written for teens. Both make periods and puberty feel like a normal part of growing up, which is half the battle.
What's inside each set?
Every set includes multiple pairs of award-winning WUKA Teen Stretch™ Period Pants and a Mesh Laundry Bag to keep them safe in the wash. How long can one pair be worn at school?
Up to 12 hours depending on flow, so most teens go from the first bell to home time in one pair. If they want backup, the changing bag holds a clean spare and a worn pair, so they can swap anywhere without any fuss.
